1972  BMW 1602 Electric

1976  BMW E12 530 MLE

BMW South Africa built the 530 MLE (Motorsport Limited Edition) between 1976 and 1977.

A total of 227 road-going units were produced to homologate the car for racing, with 110 Type 1 units built in 1976 and 117 Type 2 units in 1977. It was heavily modified, featuring a 3.0L straight-six engine and extensive weight savings.

Key details:

• Purpose: Developed as a homologation special for the Modified Production Series, it became the first "M" car before the official M division was in full swing.
• Production: Hand-built at the Rosslyn plant in Pretoria.
• Racing Success: The 530 MLE dominated South African racing, winning 15 consecutive races in 1976 and capturing three titles in three years.
• Performance: The street version produced 147kW (197bhp) and could reach 129mph, making it one of the fastest sedans of its time. 

The 530 MLE was the first racing BMW 5 Series to be developed, setting the stage for subsequent M vehicles. 

Much of the 530M’s initial development work was done by Schnitzer with input from BMW factory and F1 driver, Gunnar Nilsson.

1987  M3 Evolution (EVO1)

The BMW E30 M3 Evolution 1 (Evo 1), released in 1987, is a rare homologation special featuring a revised 

 engine with an "E" stamped cylinder head and 200 hp (often upgraded to 220 hp). Only 505 were built to meet racing regulations, largely indistinguishable from the standard E30 M3. 

Key Details of the E30 M3 Evolution 1:

• Engine: The 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine included a revised cylinder head ("E" stamp) to improve performance and specialized pistons.

• Power: Officially rated at 200 hp (same as the non-catalyst standard M3), but many were equipped with a kit bringing power closer to 220 hp.
• Production: 505 units were manufactured between March and May 1987.
• Visuals: It is almost impossible to distinguish visually from a standard E30 M3, lacking the larger wings and spoilers of later Evolution models.
• Tour de Corse: A special version of the Evo 1, the "Tour de Corse," was created to celebrate the 1987 Tour de Corse rally victory, with 40 units produced specifically for the French market. 

The Evolution 1 was followed by the Evolution 2 in 1988 and the 2.5-liter Sport Evolution in 1990.

BMW and Tour de Corse

The relationship between BMW and the Tour de Corse is legendary, with the victory in 1987 as the absolute highlight. This was the only time the BMW M3 E30 won a round of the World Rally Championship (WRC).

The Historic Victory of 1987

On May 9, 1987, Bernard Béguin made history by winning the Tour de Corse in a Prodrive-prepared BMW M3 E30.

1988  M3 Evolution II (EVO2

The 1988 BMW M3 Evolution II (E30) is a rare homologation special limited to 500 units, produced to keep the M3 competitive in Group A racing.

It features a 2.3L S14 engine upgraded to 220 hp, featuring a lighter flywheel, revised pistons, and improved intake.

Key visual cues include deeper front splitters, brake cooling ducts, and an adjustable rear spoiler.

Key Details of the E30 M3 Evolution II (EVO2)

• Engine & Performance: The 2302 cc inline-four engine produces  220HP (162KW) at 6,750 rpm.

• Upgrades included a higher compression ratio (11.0:1) and a more efficient air intake.
• Weight Reduction: The Evolution II used lighter, thinner rear and side glass, along with a lighter boot lid.
• Exterior Styling: Available in only three colors (Macao Blue, Misano Red, Nogaro Silver), it features a deeper front apron and a revised rear spoiler with an additional trailing flap.
• Interior: Equipped with special Recaro seats featuring motorsport fabric inserts and an "Evo II" plaque on the center console.
• Production & Rarity: Produced exclusively between March and May 1988, it was the second of three major evolutions of the E30 M3.

This model is recognized as a significant, high-value classic, with many examples having been maintained by specialized collectors.

1989 M3 Cecotto Edition

The BMW E30 M3 "Johnny Cecotto" Edition is one of the most sought-after limited editions of the iconic E30 M3, released in 1989 to celebrate the successes of factory driver Johnny Cecotto in the DTM.

Only 505 examples of this version were produced in total, 480 of which were the Cecotto Edition and 25 the virtually identical "Roberto Ravaglia" edition (exclusive to the British market).

The Cecotto distinguishes itself through a combination of extra power and specific visual upgrades that were only found on the rare Evolution models at the time.

Key Details:

• Engine & Performance: Equipped with the 2.3-liter S14 four-cylinder engine, which delivers 215 hp as standard in this version (fitted with a catalytic converter). At the time, this was a significant step up from the standard 195/200 hp.

• Exterior: 

  Available in only three colors: Misano Red, Macao Blue metallic, and Nogaro Silver metallic

  Equipped with the front and rear spoilers from the M3 Evolution II.

  Features thinner (lighter) rear windows and chrome exhaust tips.

  Unique 16-inch BBS wheels with a metallic black center. 

• Interior:

  Specific upholstery in Anthracite or Silver M-Technic fabric with leather side bolsters.

  A numbered plaque on the center console featuring Johnny Cecotto's signature.

  Illuminated gear knob and M footrest for the driver.

• Special features: The Swiss Edition

  In addition to the standard 505 examples, an extra 50 units were built for the Swiss market. Due to stricter emission requirements in Switzerland, the power of these cars was slightly reduced to approximately 208-211 hp, and the numbered plaques in the interior were often missing.

1989  M3 Roberto Ravaglia  Edition

The BMW M3 E30 Roberto Ravaglia Edition is the rarest variant of the legendary E30 M3,

with a production run of only 25 examples, exclusive to the British market.

Although the car is technically almost identical to the more famous Johnny Cecotto Edition (of which 480 were built), its exclusivity to the UK and the specific plaque make it one of the most sought-after collector's items for BMW enthusiasts.

Key Details:

• Engine & Performance: Equipped with the 2.3-liter 'S14' inline four-cylinder engine, delivering 215 hp (comparable to the Evolution II specifications).

• Exterior: Available in three specific colors: Misano Red, Macau Blue, and Nogaro Silver. Of the 25 examples, 16 are reportedly finished in Misano Red. Styling: The car shares body features with the M3 Evolution II, including the larger front spoiler, the absence of fog lights in favor of brake cooling ducts, and a specific rear wing.
• Interior: Features a numbered plaque on the center console with the signature of DTM champion Roberto Ravaglia. Despite exclusivity for the British market, all 25 examples were delivered with a left-hand drive (LHD) interior.
• History:
  The edition was released in 1989 to celebrate Ravaglia's successes in touring car racing, including his victory in the World Touring Car Championship. Because only 25 were made, they rarely appear on the market.
• Identification: The plaque in the interior often displays a number that is part of the total series of 505 cars (e.g., "74/505"), as BMW considered the production of the Cecotto (480 units) and Ravaglia (25 units) editions as a single run of 505 units.

1989  M3 Sport Evolution III (EVO3)

The BMW M3 Sport Evolution (also known as the Evolution III or Evo 3) is the most extreme and powerful version of the legendary E30 M3 series.

This model was produced between December 1989 and March 1990 as a homologation model for Group A racing and is limited to just 600 units.

This model is instantly recognizable by specific aerodynamic and cosmetic changes:

Key Details: The Sport Evolution distinguishes itself from the standard M3 through a larger displacement and various weight-saving modifications.

• Engine: 2.5-liter S14 inline four-cylinder (previously 2.3-liter).
• Power: 238 hp (175 kW) at 7,000 rpm. Torque: 240 Nm at 4,750 rpm.
• Acceleration (0-100 km/h): 6.5 seconds.
• Top speed: 248 km/h.

• Weight: Approx. 1,200 kg (25 kg lighter than the standard version thanks to, among other things, lighter bumpers and a smaller fuel tank).

• Exterior: Exclusively available in Brilliant Red (with black accents) or Gloss Black (with red accents). The fog lights have been replaced by cooling ducts for the brakes.
• Interior: Equipped with Recaro bucket seats with integrated headrests, red seatbelts, and a sports steering wheel, gear lever, and handbrake covered in anthracite Alcantara. There is a numbered plate on the center console.

• Adjustable Aerodynamics: A three-position adjustable front splitter and rear wing (with the settings: 'Monza', 'Normal', and 'Nürburgring').

1993  E36 M3 GTR

The BMW E36 M3 GTR (Gran Turismo Racing) is an extremely rare racing-developed version of the E36, often equipped with a powerful 3.0-liter six-cylinder (S50B30) delivering approx. 300-325 hp. The model is characterized by a widened body, aggressive spoilers, a stripped-down interior, and lightweight components.

Only one GTR Strassenversion was built as that was all that was required by homologation requirements of the day.

This was unfortunate as, even though economic conditions were not great, BMW could probably have sold a dozen or so units to wealthy customers in Europe and Japan.

The sole example built went to the Quandt family who had remained major shareholders in BMW after Herbert Quandt saved the firm from bankruptcy in the early 1960s.

A further three examples were built for racing, one of which was to endurance specification.

Key Details:

• Engine and Performance: The GTR version used a bored-out 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, producing 300 hp in the street version and 325 hp in the race car. Some racing models (such as the Racer E36 M3 GTR 5.0 V8 S62) were later fitted with 5.0-liter V8 engines producing over 450 hp.

• Design: The E36 M3 GTR is instantly recognizable by its widened fenders and distinctive rear wing, designed for optimal aerodynamics in the ADAC GT Cup.

• Rarity: Very few examples of the "Strassenversion" (street version) were built, with some sources speaking of only a handful. 

• Distinction from E46 GTR:

  It is important not to confuse the E36 M3 GTR with the more famous E46 M3 GTR (known from Need for Speed), which dates from 2001 and was equipped with a V8 engine as standard.

1994  E36 M3 GT

The BMW E36 M3 3.0 GT is a very rare, limited edition released in 1995 to meet homologation requirements for the FIA ​​GT and IMSA GT races. Only 356 examples were produced (plus 5 pre-production models), all of which were delivered in the distinctive color British Racing Green with a Mexico Green Nappa leather interior.

The M3 GT was a sharper version of the standard 3.0 M3, with modifications directly aimed at track performance.

What distinguishes the M3 GT from a regular E36 M3 are the specific aerodynamic and mechanical upgrades.

Key Details:

• Engine: A modified S50B30 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine.
• Power: 295 hp (217 kW) at 7,100 rpm, which is 9 hp more than the standard 3.0
• Torque: 323 Nm at 3,900 rpm. Top Speed: The limiter has been removed, allowing for a top speed of 275 km/h.
• Acceleration: 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 5.9 seconds.

• Aerodynamics: Equipped with an adjustable front splitter and a double rear spoiler for extra downforce.
• Weight Reduction: Equipped with aluminum doors, which saved significant weight compared to the standard steel doors.
• Chassis: A stiffer suspension and a strut brace for better stability in corners.
• Interior: Finished with carbon fiber dashboard panels instead of the standard plastic or wood.
• Wheels: Forged 17-inch 'Style 24' M Double Spoke wheels.

1995  E36 M3 3.0 Lightweight

The 1995 BMW E36 M3 Lightweight (also known as LTW) is a rare, track-oriented variant built exclusively for the North American market to meet homologation requirements for IMSA GT racing. Only 126 examples of this model were produced in total, making it one of the most sought-after collector's items in the BMW world.

The Lightweight was based on the standard American M3 Coupe but was approximately 91 to 120 kg lighter (total weight approx. 1,338 kg) due to the omission of luxury features and the use of lighter materials. Engine: 3.0L S50 inline-6 ​​(US-spec) delivering 240 hp and 305 Nm of torque. Although the engine was identical to the standard US M3, these engines were "hand-picked" by BMW for the Lightweight models.

The "Trunk Kit"

Each car came with a kit of parts in the trunk that could be installed by the owner (or dealer) for track use. If these parts were installed, the factory warranty was officially voided. This kit included:

An adjustable large rear wing (with spacers).

An adjustable front splitter.

A front strut bar.

A modified dual-suction oil sump for better lubrication in fast corners.

Key Details:

• Transmission: 5-speed manual with a shorter final drive ratio (3.23 instead of 3.15) for faster acceleration.

• Exterior: Exclusively delivered in Alpine White III with the iconic BMW Motorsport flag decals on the left front and right rear corners.

• Weight reduction:

  No air conditioning, radio (though prepared), or sunroof.

  Aluminum door panels and reduced sound insulation.

1997  The BMW E36 318ti Compact STW

The BMW E36 318ti Compact STW is a rare, sporty version of the Compact hatchback, released in a limited run in 1997 in honor of BMW's successes in the STW (Super Tourenwagen Cup).

Although the car is technically largely identical to the standard 318ti, the STW edition distinguishes itself through its exclusive looks and factory upgrades.

Key Details:

• Drivetrain: Equipped with the 1.9-liter 16-valve M44 engine producing 140 hp and 180 Nm of torque.

• Chassis: Uses the familiar E36 Compact configuration: the front end of an E36, but the rear axle of the older E30 (semi-trailing arms) for agile, playful handling.

  Why the Compact STW is special

2001  E46 M3 CSL

The BMW M3 CSL (Coupé Sport Light) (E46), produced in 2003-2004, is a legendary lightweight sports car.

With 360 hp from a 3.2-liter inline six and a weight reduction of 110 kg (to 1,385 kg) through extensive use of carbon fiber (roof) and reduced insulation,

it is one of the purest M models ever, recognizable by its unique 'airbox' air intake.

    Key Details:

• Engine: 3.2-liter S54 inline 6-cylinder, modified to produce 360 ​​hp (17 hp more than the standard M3).
• Transmission: Equipped as standard with the automated SMG II transmission with paddle shifters.

2001  E46 M3 GTR

The BMW E46 M3 GTR (Gran Turismo Racing) is an extremely rare, race-oriented sports car (homologation special), famous for its 4.0-liter P60 V8 engine and its iconic role in Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

With only 10 street-legal versions built (Strassenversion), it delivers approx. 350-380 hp, weighs only 1,350 kg, and features extensive carbon fiber components for optimal performance. 

Key Details:

• Engine: 4.0-liter V8 (P60B40) with dry-sump lubrication, developed for ALMS racing.

• Performance (Street version): 350-380 hp, top speed of 295 km/h.
• Design: Aggressive bodywork with larger skirts, a large rear wing, and a special hood with vents.
• Weight: 1,350 kg (street version) due to the use of carbon fiber (roof, bumpers, rear wing)
• Interior: Completely stripped (no air conditioning, radio, or rear seats).

   

• Background & Rarity:

  Homologation: BMW built the street version exclusively to comply with the rules for the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in 2001, where the race car won the title.

  Price: Approx. €250,000 at the time, making it one of the most expensive BMWs of that era.

  Racing: The race version produced approx. 450 hp and weighed only 1,100 kg

   

   

   

  At its presentation in 2001, the BMW M3 GTR Strassenversion sent a signal, in particular as regards price – and it wasn’t exactly a bargain: you had to shell out 250,000 Euro if you wanted to own this uncompromising driving machine. A lot of money for a BMW M3 – from today’s standpoint no bad investment. The sports coupé is as legendary as a unicorn and highly sought after by collectors. It’s more or less impossible to get hold of one. Which makes putting a realistic market price for a M3 GTR Street pretty well impossible. Moreover, it’s not entirely clear where the ten vehicles produced back then actually are and whether they were ever licensed for road use by their owners. What’s certain is that BMW Group Classic preserves collector’s items like the shown one for future fans.

2003  BMW E46 M3 CSL Prototype

Although the production version of the BMW M3 CSL (E46) became legendary in 2003 with its 360 hp six-cylinder, BMW M built an even more extreme, secret variant in that same year: the BMW M3 CSL V8 Prototype. This unique vehicle was a rolling laboratory to explore the limits of the E46 chassis and served as a test bench for future engine technology.

• Engine: Instead of the standard 3.2L inline six, this prototype was equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 engine (an early version of the S65VB40).
• Power: The engine delivered an impressive 430 hp , significantly more than the of the standard CSL.
• Purpose: The data collected from this engine formed the basis of the later high-revving V10 and V8 engines (S85 and S65) used in the E60 M5 and the subsequent E90/E92 M3.

• Exclusivity: The vehicle is a one-off and never went into production due to the high costs and the need to extensively modify the chassis for the larger engine.

2005  E63 M6 CSL Prototype

The BMW M6 CSL (E63) is a rare prototype that never went into production. Although the "CSL" badge is normally reserved for BMW's most extreme street cars, this variant remained a secret experiment by the M division that was not shown to the public until 2022.

Key Details:

• Active Aerodynamics: The M6 ​​CSL was the first and only M car to be equipped with active aerodynamics, including a movable rear wing and an adjustable front splitter.

• V10 Engine: It shares its basis with the legendary S85 5.0L V10 from the standard M6, but for the prototype, an experiment was conducted with a bored-out 5.7-liter version (similar to the M5 CSL prototype) that delivered more power.

2009  E92 M3 GTS

The BMW E92 M3 GTS (Gran Turismo Sport) is the ultimate, street-legal track version of the E92 M3, launched in 2010 as an exclusive collector's item with a production run of only 135 units.

Key Details:

• Engine: An enlarged 4.4-liter V8 (S65) delivering 450 hp, which is 30 hp more than the standard M3.
• Performance: The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 305 km/h.
• Weight: Thanks to the removal of the rear seats, lighter materials, and the use of Macrolon (polycarbonate) windows, the GTS is approximately 70 kg lighter than the standard coupe.
• Exterior: Instantly recognizable by the bright Fire Orange color, the adjustable rear wing, and the black 19-inch wheels.

• Interior: Equipped with a roll cage, fire extinguisher, and bucket seats with six-point harnesses, emphasizing the racing DNA.

2009  E60 M5 CSL Prototype

The BMW M5 CSL (E60) V10 is a unique prototype built by the M division in 2009 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the M5.

Although this "lightweight" model never went into production, it remains one of the most legendary projects from the secret archives.

Key Details:

• Engine: A bored-out version of the standard S85 V10, enlarged from 5.0 to 5.5 liters

• Power: The engine delivers approximately 550 hp (compared to the standard 507 hp) and offers significantly more torque in the mid-range.
• Transmission: Instead of the infamous SMG gearbox, this prototype received an early version of the 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch) transmission from the M3 (E92) of that era.
• Weight reduction: The car weighs approximately 50 kg less than the standard E60 M5 thanks to a carbon fiber roof, Recaro bucket seats, and the removal of the rear seats
• Performance: During tests on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, this prototype was reportedly 20 seconds faster than the standard production M5.

  Visually, the M5 CSL is immediately recognizable by:

  An extra air intake in the front bumper for improved cooling.

  A striking carbon fiber roof, a first for the 5 Series at the time.

  A minimalist interior geared towards track use.

2010-09  BMW M3 Tiger Edition

BMW M3 Tiger Edition

Launch Date: Officially announced in late August/early September 2010.

Market: Exclusively for China.

Key Features: Fire Orange metallic paint (similar to the GTS), black 19-inch wheels, and special "Tiger" embroidered headrests.

A separate "Tiger Matte Edition" in matte black was later introduced for China in early 2011

Key Details:

• The car is instantly recognizable by its Fire Orange Metallic paint color, which was previously only available on the extreme M3 GTS.

• Exterior: The car features numerous black accents, including black 19-inch 359M Competition wheels, black kidney grilles, black hood intakes, and black chrome exhaust tips. Notably, this edition does not have a carbon fiber roof, but a glass sunroof.

• Interior: The interior is finished in black Novillo leather with contrasting orange stitching. The front headrests feature an embroidered tiger head, and the door sill plates display the "Tiger Edition" logo in Fire Orange. 
• Performance: Under the skin, the technology is the same as the standard M3 from that era, with the familiar 4.0-liter V8 (S65) delivering 420 hp. No specific engine upgrades have been applied to this edition.

2011  M3 CRT E90

The 2011 BMW M3 CRT (Carbon Racing Technology) is a rare, lightweight sedan based on the E90, of which only 67 examples were built.

It features a 450 hp 4.4-liter V8, a 7-speed DCT transmission, and extensive use of carbon fiber for improved performance, with a top speed of 290 km/h.

Key Details:

• Engine and Performance: The car is equipped with the 4.4-liter V8 engine from the M3 GTS, which delivers 450 hp and 440 Nm of torque.

• Construction: The CRT model introduced innovative "Carbon Racing Technology," featuring a specially produced hood and seats made of CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic).
• Exclusivity: Only 67 examples were produced, plus one prototype. The cars are recognizable by their unique 'Frozen Polar Silver' paint color combined with Melbourne Red accents.
• Driving characteristics: In addition to weight reduction, the CRT features a modified suspension with 2-way adjustable KW coilover dampers and an improved braking system.
• Rarity: Due to low production numbers and the combination of sedan functionality with GTS performance, the M3 CRT is a highly sought-after collector's item.

The BMW M3 "Frozen Edition" is a series of exclusive versions of the BMW M3 E92 Coupé, recognizable by their matte paint and the standard Competition package. These cars are equipped with the legendary 420 hp S65 V8 engine and black 19-inch Competition wheels.

Frozen Black Edition:

This version was introduced in 2011. Only 20 units were built for the American market, but the version was also available in other markets such as the Netherlands.

Frozen Silver Edition:

A total of 140 examples of the BMW M3 Frozen Silver Edition (E92) were produced worldwide.

This exclusive series was released in 2012 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the BMW M division.

Production was distributed across specific markets as follows:

United Kingdom: 100 examples.
North America: 40 examples.

Frozen White, Red & Blue Editions:

This series appeared in late 2013 as one of the last special editions of the E92 generation. A total of 150 units were produced, with the white variant being the most popular. The interior of these models features stitching in the same color as the exterior paint.

There were only 200 units of the 2013 BMW M3 Coupe Lime Rock Park Edition produced.

BMW and Lime Rock Park have collaborated on the M3 Coupe Lime Rock Park Edition to celebrate the longstanding relationship between BMW automobiles, the famed Lime Rock Park racing circuit, and the thousands of passionate drivers and fans who join them together.

2012-12  BMW M3 DTM  Champion Edition

The BMW M3 DTM Champion Edition is an extremely exclusive, limited edition (54 units worldwide) of the E92 M3.

Released in 2012 to celebrate Bruno Spengler's DTM title.

The model features Frozen Black Metallic paint, various carbon fiber parts, Motorsport stripes, and specific interior details referencing the race car.

Key Details:

• Edition: Only 54 units produced, referencing 54 DTM victories
• Appearance: Finished in Frozen Black Metallic with matte black 19-inch wheels.
• Exterior: Features carbon fiber flaps on the front bumper, a carbon fiber roof, and a black rear spoiler.
• Interior: The steering wheel is finished in Alcantara, and there are "M Power" embroidered details and Spengler's signature on the carbon fiber interior trim.

2013  F10 M5 Night Hawk

The BMW M5 Nighthawk is an extremely exclusive, limited edition of the BMW M5 (F10 generation), which was released specifically for the Japanese market in 2013. Only 10 examples of this "dark edition" were produced.

• Exterior: The car is painted in the matte color BMW Individual Frozen Black. Other black accents include the 20-inch matte M alloy wheels, the "dark chrome" grille, door handles, exterior mirrors, and the four exhaust pipes.
• Interior: For a stark contrast, the interior is finished in Sakhir Orange Merino leather, combined with carbon fiber trim and a numbered plaque to emphasize exclusivity.

• Performance: The Nighthawk came standard with the Competition Package, which increased the power of the 4.4L twin-turbo V8 to 575 hp. As a result, the car sprints to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.
• Technology: The version also features carbon-ceramic brakes, a modified suspension, and a sports exhaust system.

Price and Availability
At the introduction in 2013, the new price was ¥18,200,000 (approximately €141,400 at the time). Due to the enormous interest in Japan, BMW organized a lottery at the time to determine which of the interested customers would be allowed to purchase one of the 10 cars.

2018  F87 M2 CSL Prototype

A production BMW M2 CSL does not currently exist, but BMW did develop an M2 CSL prototype (F87) in 2018 as a one-off model. This concept was based on the M2 Competition, featuring 450 hp, reduced weight thanks to carbon fiber (CFRP), and a roll cage. There has been speculation about a CSL from the current G87 generation, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Key Details:

• Development: Based on the 2018 M2 Competition, with parts from the M4 GTS.

• Power: 450 hp and  550 nm torque.

• Features: Lightweight construction, bucket seats, roll cage, CFRP center console, carbon rear wing, and carbon ceramic brakes.
• Status: Official CSL prototype, never went into production; BMW prioritized the M2 CS (2020).

More recent developments (G87 M2):
Instead of a CSL, BMW announced the new 2026 BMW M2 CS (based on the G87), which was unveiled in May 2025. This car delivers approximately 530 hp, comparable to the M3 and M4, and is aimed at ultimate track performance.

Additionally, the BMW M2 with the M Race Track Pack is available, including carbon bucket seats and roof.

Although there is talk in the grapevine about an ultimate "dream car" or future M2 CSL, the M2 CS is the current top model.
